Video captures woman waving gun before being shot by Rock Hill Police
A recent incident in Rock Hill, N.C., captured on video, shows a woman brandishing a gun before being shot by a police officer on July 5. The woman, whose identity remains undisclosed, is expected to recover from her injuries, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED). Local residents Krista Williams and Katie Hewitt recounted the woman’s erratic behavior as she drove into their Nassaw Circle neighborhood, pointing the gun at people and causing distress. Williams expressed her fear, thankful for being unharmed in the face of the woman’s threatening actions, saying, “It was just real scary to me, and I wouldn’t want to go through that again.”
After a brief police chase, an officer from the Rock Hill Police Department wounded the woman in the arm. Further investigation revealed that the gun she wielded was a modified BB gun made to resemble a real firearm. Hewitt recounted the shock of being at the receiving end of the woman’s menacing behavior, describing how she and Williams were instructed to exit their vehicle at gunpoint. Reflecting on the incident, Hewitt hoped the woman would receive the necessary help, recognizing the surreal nature of the situation unfolding before her eyes.
Williams, on the other hand, recorded a video of the woman waving the gun through her car’s sunroof and pointing it directly at her. Williams described her initial disbelief, having lived in the neighborhood for a decade without experiencing such extreme events, making it a particularly unnerving experience. Williams expressed her relief that the woman is expected to survive, emphasizing her desire for a peaceful resolution to the situation, saying, “I’m actually grateful that she is going to survive because I wouldn’t want her to lose her life over some craziness that got into her mind.”
Fortunately, no deputies or police officers sustained physical injuries during the encounter with the armed woman, as confirmed by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. The seriousness of the incident was evident in the footage captured on video, highlighting the dangers faced by law enforcement officials and civilians when faced with such unpredictable and threatening situations. The community in Rock Hill was left shaken by the events of that day, with a sense of relief that no lives were lost.
