Artists like Fred again.. and DJ Seinfeld have supported him, solidifying his position at the forefront of the UK club scene. “Loner,” his second album, delves into his personal reflections and experiences from the past year, portraying a delicate balance of introspection and warm, enveloping soundscapes.
The opening track, “The Person You’d Like To Be,” sets the tone for the album, blending thrilling sirens with post-punk elements to evoke introspective imagery alongside storytelling. “Different,” another track, showcases Barry Can’t Swim’s signature emotional melodies, intricate beats, and gripping grooves. The cut-up breakbeats, sharp synths, anxious vocals, and heavy basslines intertwine to create a sound filled with tension and excitement.
A collaboration with O’Flynn, “Kimpton,” oscillates between bright, positive energy and gentle melancholy, standing out as one of the earliest tracks completed for the album. Wrapped in a warm piano riff, the song’s sound would resonate even more beautifully in an open outdoor space. “About To Begin” stands out as one of the most danceable and intuitive tracks on the album, blending nostalgic 90s sounds with an energetic beat, creating a floor-filling, exhilarating atmosphere.
Closing the album is “Wandering Mt. Moon,” the most ambient track, intertwining feelings of floating and grandeur to gracefully conclude the album’s lingering essence.
