Fred again.., KETTAMA, and Shady Nasty have recently collaborated on a new track titled “Air Maxes,” just before Fred again..’s debut at the upcoming Fuji Rock festival in Japan.

Known for breaking genre boundaries through various collaborations, Fred again.. has teamed up with the Sydney-based post-punk trio Shady Nasty, who recently released their highly anticipated debut album “TREK,” produced by Kim Moyes of The Presets. They are joined by KETTAMA, an Irish DJ and producer spearheading the next generation of rave music.

“Air Maxes” features two versions. One version highlights Shady Nasty’s frontman Kevin Stathis’ bluesy vocals against a backdrop of enveloping piano melodies and soft synth textures, creating a meditative ambient atmosphere that beautifully conveys themes of lost dreams and aspirations.

The second version, a rework by KETTAMA, infuses rugged jungle-inspired breakbeats, deep basslines, and delicate piano elements to the original track, adding a dynamic dance floor energy to the emotional core.

The collaboration originated from a spontaneous studio session after Shady Nasty and KETTAMA performed at the HAZARD Festival in Sydney earlier this year. Fred again.. got hold of the demo recordings and added his refined touch to finalize the track. Praising the collaboration on his Twitch stream, Fred again.. expressed his admiration for the band, likening them to The Streets and appreciating KETTAMA’s contributions.

Shady Nasty, known for their unique blend of punk, hip-hop, and experimental music, have shifted from their signature guitar sound to explore a more ethereal synth-driven production style post their debut album release. They explained that “Air Maxes” explores themes of losing sight of dreams and goals, the uncertainty of continuing efforts without a clear endpoint, and the importance of reflecting on one’s purpose while driving through the city streets.

KETTAMA has risen through the underground scene with his distinct emotional rave sensibility, gaining recognition for collaborations with dance music legends like Underworld and successful hits like “Yosemite” with Interplanetary Criminal.

Amidst the constant stream of club music releases, “Air Maxes” stands out as a compelling fusion of dark ambient, post-punk, and breakbeats that captivates listeners across genre boundaries, making it a standout release for the summer.

Shady Nasty will embark on their first solo show in New Zealand in September, while KETTAMA is set to embark on a world tour from summer to fall. Fred again.. is gearing up for his highly anticipated debut at Fuji Rock 25 later this month.
