King Crimson is currently working on their first new album in more than two decades
King Crimson, the legendary progressive rock band, is currently in the studio, working on their first full-length album since 2003’s The Power to Believe. The band’s vocalist and guitarist, Jakko M. Jakszyk, recently confirmed this news in an interview with Goldmine Mag, disclosing that they are “doing a King Crimson studio album” as we speak.
The specifics of the album are still largely unknown, but Jakszyk mentioned that the project had been intensifying incrementally and has recently been given the green light from management to move forward. He stated, “When that will come out and what format or how that’s beyond my brief.” He further explained that they have been recording in anticipation of a release in the future.
Jakszyk hinted at the band’s plans for other releases as well, specifically mentioning an album he had worked on with Robert before joining King Crimson, called A Scarcity of Miracles. This record will be reissued, featuring alternative versions and unreleased improvisations. Additionally, there are reports of future live concert footage releases.
The King Crimson album in progress will feature the latest version of the band, comprised of eight members, including Robert Fripp, Jakszyk, Mel Collins, Tony Levin, Pat Mastelotto, Gavin Harrison, Jeremy Stacey, and the late Bill Rieflin. This lineup gained recognition for their extraordinary live performances and fresh compositions introduced between 2014 and 2021.
Since their last studio album, King Crimson has predominantly focused on live shows and archival material. The band documented their 2021 tour with the release of the film In the Court of the Crimson King, providing insights into their rigorous tour lifestyle. Live performances have been sparse since then, particularly since Robert Fripp’s illness led to speculation about Crimson’s future performances.
Alongside the new studio album, fans can anticipate an extended edition of A Scarcity of Miracles, the precursor to the current King Crimson lineup. This reissue will include unreleased tracks and extensive bonus content. Furthermore, there are plans to release live videos from previous tours, allowing fans a glimpse into the band’s dynamic performances.
In conclusion, King Crimson enthusiasts have much to look forward to with the band’s latest album production and upcoming releases. The prog rock giants continue to push boundaries and deliver innovative music that has captivated audiences for over five decades.
