TRNSMT festival goers have been braving scorching temperatures in Glasgow, with Biffy Clyro leading the Saturday lineup alongside Underworld and a secret set by Amy Macdonald. The mercury soared to 29C in the city, prompting health officials to advise attendees to stay hydrated and apply sunscreen during this heatwave.

Fontaines DC, the Irish rock band, made a bold statement by walking onstage to a song by Kneecap, a controversial rap act dropped from the lineup earlier this year, and led the crowd in “free Palestine” chants. The political messages continued with pro-Palestinian visuals projected on the stage screens and accusations of Israeli genocide in Gaza during the performance of “I Love You.”

Biffy Clyro took the stage delivering an energetic performance complete with pyrotechnics and confetti cascading over the audience. Bassist James Johnston humorously dedicated the song “Different People” to gingers who were braving the day’s heat, while playing a variety of hits from their career.

In a packed Hangout tent, the mysterious Ms. Rock n’ Roll turned out to be Amy Macdonald, showcasing tracks from her new album “Is This What You’ve Been Waiting For.” She opened with the record’s title track and joked about the cramped tent preventing her friends from getting in. Macdonald emphasized the significance of festivals like TRNSMT in supporting both new and established Scottish artists.

Saturday’s performances also included Norwegian pop sensation Sigrid sporting a tartan TRNSMT football jersey and Irish rockers Inhaler delivering a solid rock n’ roll performance, with their singer Elijah Hewson somehow managing to wear a parka in the blazing conditions.

Amongst the festival’s highlights was the last-minute change to the lineup, which saw Miles Kane stepping in for Wunderhorse, who dropped out due to illness. Despite the scorching conditions, festival stewards praised fans for braving the heat while enjoying the performances at the various stages throughout TRNSMT.

Dr. Emilia Crighton from NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde emphasized the importance of staying hydrated and using sunscreen in this heatwave. She encouraged festival-goers to look out for each other to ensure everyone’s safety and enjoyment at the event.

TRNSMT, set to conclude on Sunday, will feature a headline performance by Snow Patrol. The event has already seen a diverse lineup of artists and a mix of music genres, with strong political statements, energetic performances, and a supportive atmosphere for both emerging and established Scottish talents.
