Taiwanese boy band F4 surprises fans with thrilling reunion
Taiwanese boy band F4 made a surprise reunion appearance at rock band Mayday’s concert in Taiwan over the weekend, thrilling fans with a performance of their hit ballad Meteor Rain. The quartet, composed of Jerry Yan, Vanness Wu, Vic Chou, and Ken Chu, shot to stardom in the early 2000s after starring in the popular TV drama Meteor Garden. The show, based on the Japanese manga Boys Over Flowers, was a massive hit across Asia and helped popularize the “idol drama” genre.
Meteor Garden also featured actress Barbie Hsu, who tragically passed away earlier this year. The series revolves around a lower-class girl who attends school alongside four wealthy and arrogant boys known as the F4. Its massive success led to adaptations in other Asian countries, including Japan, South Korea, China, and Thailand.
Although the boy band F4 disbanded in 2009, they reunited four years later for a special performance during a Chinese TV network’s Spring Festival Gala. The recent reunion at Mayday’s concert came as a pleasant surprise to fans, many of whom expressed their excitement and nostalgia for the beloved group.
Mayday’s lead singer, Ashin, shared that it took years of effort to bring all four F4 members back together for the performance. Mayday, a highly popular band in the Chinese-speaking world, has been likened to iconic Western groups such as The Beatles, Coldplay, and Maroon 5 for their musical prowess and widespread appeal.
During the concert, F4 also joined Mayday onstage to perform The Song of Laughter and Forgetting, further exciting the audience. F4’s Jerry Yan thanked Mayday for their hard work in organizing the reunion, expressing gratitude for the unexpected opportunity to relive their youth.
Fans responded enthusiastically to F4’s surprise appearance, with many expressing hopes for a full-fledged concert featuring the boy band. Speculation has arisen about a potential F4 concert next year, marking 25 years since their debut, but official confirmation has yet to be released by the group or their management.
With all four F4 members still active in the entertainment industry, the recent reunion has sparked a wave of joy and nostalgia among fans who grew up with the iconic boy band. The enduring popularity of F4 and their music is a testament to the lasting impact they have had on the hearts of audiences across Asia.
