Lalah Hathaway releases new album “Expansion Pack”

Recognized alongside the titans of music, Lalah and Beyoncé hold the tied record for most Traditional R&B Performance Grammys ever won. Each of Lalah Hathaway’s solo albums of the last ten years has been Grammy-nominated in the Best R&B Album category, with a win going to ‘Lalah Hathaway Live’ in 2017, a personalized ode to her father’s iconic live album. Lalah’s latest album, Grammy-nominated ‘VANTABLACK’, and the title’s very definition as the darkest shade of the color black in existence, encapsulates Lalah’s outlook in recent years, that she feels “the blackest I’ve ever been”. With ‘VANTABLACK: EXPANSION PACK’ Hathaway looks outward: with a project focusing on collaboration and community, hosting an energized array of sounds fit for the summer!
Lalah Hathaway comments, “VANTABLACK” was always the name of the project. I started reframing how I saw color, in terms of being the blackest I’ve ever been and even though I’m steeped in who I am, it doesn’t exclude the other things that make up the sum of me. Similar to how all the music around me informs the black music that I create. So, it’s all a melting pot of all of me.”
