A new folk festival, Gŵyl Werin y Bont (Bridge Folk Festival), is set to take place near Tregaron this weekend, slated to become an annual tradition. Efan Williams, one of the festival’s organisers from Ledrod, expressed excitement about bringing the community together through a day filled with folk music. He took advantage of the Dant Music Festival in the area in 2025 to kickstart the idea of a folk festival, aiming to make it a success this year and to potentially host choirs and groups from Celtic countries in the future.

Recently launched, a new guide on creating small festivals will provide valuable insights and tips for event organisers looking to arrange similar community gatherings. The guide is set for its official introduction on Monday at the Big Show grounds in the Cymru Young Farmers Clubs building. Attendees will benefit from a panel discussion featuring various organisers sharing their expertise, ideas, and challenges concerning the planning of small-scale festivals or outdoor events for local communities. The guide is a comprehensive resource offering advice on insurance, sound and lighting requirements, promotional strategies via multimedia, fundraising techniques, and sponsorship structuring needed for successful events. Collaboratively developed by the Ymbweru Bro project and event organisers across Wales, the guide addresses the common struggle faced by aspiring event planners in knowing where to begin when taking on such a venture.

A sense of shared experience and collective joy underpins local events, according to Lowri Jones, coordinator of the guide’s creation from Cwmni Golwg. Whether it is a village carnival or a rock festival, the camaraderie formed at such events fosters a feeling of belonging and community spirit. Jones attests that although organizing these events for the first time can be daunting, there is incomparable satisfaction in joining forces with like-minded individuals. She hopes the newly launched guide will serve as a beacon for those looking to plan events in their neighbourhoods, offering guidance and inspiration whether they are newcomers or reviving well-established festivals.

Mentrau Iaith Cymru has lent support to the Ymbweru Bro project, emphasizing the importance of empowering individuals to create events tailored to their communities’ needs for the safeguarding of the Welsh language’s future. Myfanwy Jones, Director of Mentrau Iaith Cymru, believes the guide will facilitate the organization of locally-themed Welsh events, thereby contributing to the collective effort of preserving the Welsh language through community gatherings and events. The project envisions the guide to be a valuable tool in promoting the Welsh language and heritage, inspiring the growth of community-centered events across Wales.
