The second album by DD Verni & The Cadillac Band, titled Buckle Up, introduces a fresh take on big band music, blending the raw energy and concise songwriting of rock ‘n roll with the stylish, swinging throwback arrangements and aesthetics. Scheduled for release on September 19th through DEKO, this 14-track album kicks off today (July 18th) with the debut single and video for “Lucky 13.” Dive into the song now and catch the video below.

Opening the album, “Lucky 13” sets a dynamic tone with its fiery riffs, scorching guitar solo, and exhilarating horns, coupled with an equally captivating video featuring the entire 13-piece band. DD, widely recognized as the bassist and songwriter for thrash metal legends Overkill, explains the significance of this track, stating, “This was the first song I had written for this new album and kinda set the tone. Everything the band is about, cool riffs, great horn arrangements by Jim McMillen. Really wanted the first song and video to let people know again where the heart of the band is.” Reflecting on the video production, he emphasizes, “This is really where this music comes alive…on stage. I can just feel the energy and vibe. So fun to be a part of! This was a really fun day, lots of laughs with a good bunch of guys and gals.” Drawing inspiration from classic movies like “Casino” and Dean Martin films, DD conveys the nostalgic essence of the song, envisioning a carefree evening at the craps table with loved ones.

With Buckle Up, DD amalgamates Overkill’s electrifying stage presence with his enduring admiration for crooners like Frank Sinatra and Bobby Darin to create a musical blend that surpasses the band’s 2021 debut, Let’s Rattle. Continuing the seamless synergy of Let’s Rattle, Buckle Up refines existing strengths while enhancing horn arrangements crafted by Jim McMillen, recognized for his work on popular TV shows and collaborations with renowned artists. Solely accompanied by his guitar in the initial writing stages, DD’s songs exude unadulterated energy, a signature element that has enticed a diverse pool of musicians to join the Cadillac Band’s ranks. The album features an ensemble of accomplished artists, including Bernie Dresel on drums, Johnny Hatton on slap bass, members from iconic bands like The Eagles and Paul McCartney, and esteemed vocalist duo Kingston and GreyStarr, among others. Recorded across New Jersey and Los Angeles, Buckle Up was helmed by DD as the producer and mixed by Michael Frondelli, known for his work with a plethora of legendary musicians.

Expressing his excitement for the album’s release, DD radiates enthusiasm, “This is timeless, fun music. And for me, in a world that seems so chaotic every day, it’s a joy to have something that’s just plain fun, simple, and energetic.” Buckle Up encapsulates DD’s creative evolution, merging past experiences with a newfound musical maturity that promises a rollicking good time for listeners. So, buckle up, unwind, and immerse yourself in the infectious melodies of DD Verni & The Cadillac Band.
