Upcoming Blondie album with contributions from late drummer Clem Burke set for release this year
Blondie’s highly anticipated new album will feature late drummer Clem Burke and is expected to be released towards the end of the year. Guitarist Chris Stein hinted at the upcoming project, sharing a photo of frontwoman Debbie Harry and producer John Congleton working at the mixing desk, stating that fans can likely expect the album around the last quarter of the year.
When asked if Burke performed on the record, Stein confirmed that the late sticksman played the drums on the whole album. Regarding the possibility of touring, he remained uncertain, simply stating, “Tour don’t know.” Debbie Harry expressed sorrow over the idea of continuing without Clem, emphasizing how integral he was to the band, both musically and personally. Despite her doubts about performing without him, she expressed pride in Blondie’s music and indicated an interest in continuing to create new music.
Clem, who passed away at the age of 70 following a private battle with cancer in April, was celebrated by Blondie and fellow musicians for his unparalleled energy, skill, and passion for music. His contributions to Blondie and the broader music community were immense, with his fellow band members expressing profound respect and admiration for his impact on their music and lives. Beyond Blondie, Clem collaborated with numerous iconic artists, showcasing his versatile talent and influence in the music industry.
Glen Matlock, known for his work with the Sex Pistols, has stepped in to play bass on the upcoming album, marking Blondie’s first release since 2017’s “Pollinator,” which garnered critical acclaim. Matlock’s involvement in the project adds another layer of depth to the band’s sound, highlighting the collaborative spirit that has defined Blondie’s enduring legacy.
Blondie’s ability to attract a diverse array of talented musicians and produce music that resonates across generations is a testament to their enduring impact on the music industry. The new album featuring the late Clem Burke promises to honor his memory while continuing to push creative boundaries and delight fans with fresh, innovative music that encapsulates the spirit of Blondie’s iconic sound. The album is not just a tribute to Clem but is also a celebration of the band’s resilience, creativity, and enduring influence in the world of rock and pop music.
