The Savin Rock Festival is a celebration steeped in history and tradition, paying homage to West Haven’s amusement park heyday. This yearly event is set to bring back the memories of Savin Rock Park, fondly known as “the Rock,” once the Connecticut equivalent of Coney Island. The festival, organized by the Savin Rock Festival Committee, will take place from 5-10 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m.-10 p.m. on Saturday.

One of the festival’s main attractions will be Live and Let Die: The Music of Paul McCartney, featuring Tony Kishman from the Broadway musical “Beatlemania,” headlining the event on Saturday. The opening night on Friday will showcase The Stevie Experience, delivering a tribute to the music and story of Stevie Nicks.

Mayor Dorinda Borer emphasized the significance of this event as a testament to West Haven’s rich history as a vibrant amusement park destination. The festival promises to bring back the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes of Savin Rock Park, ensuring that attendees can experience the essence of “the Rock” once again.

Sponsors for the festival include Premium Parking, Affordable Waste Systems, CDM Smith, Gilbane, and The Frankson Fence Co. Inc. In addition to the live music performances, attendees can enjoy a wide array of activities, including a free inflatable park and a plethora of food options, including delicious seafood dishes.

Sherri Lepper and Ed O’Brien, co-chairs of the committee, highlighted that the festival will also feature a variety of nonprofit organizations showcasing their work in the historic Grove. Additionally, a fleet of food trucks and dessert vendors will be on-site to cater to attendees’ culinary desires. From lobster rolls to wood-fired pizza, there will be something to satisfy every craving.

For those looking to unwind, a beer garden serving beer and wine will be open from 5-9 p.m. on Friday and noon-9 p.m. on Saturday. Attendees can stroll through the traditional craft fair set up under the park’s oak trees, offering a leisurely shopping experience.

Parking for non-residents will cost $10, while residents with registered vehicles in West Haven can park for free. Handicapped parking will be available for those in need of special accommodations. The festival will kick off on Friday evening with an official greeting and a performance of the national anthem. The festivities will be hosted by WOW Radio personality Brian Smith, who will add his signature touch to the event.

Throughout the day, attendees can look forward to a jam-packed schedule of activities, including live music, a pancake breakfast, helicopter rides, bicycle safety demonstrations, and a cornhole tournament. The festival promises to offer something for everyone, from children’s activities to thrilling performances by local artists.

As the sun sets on Saturday evening, Voices of Rock will take the stage, delivering an electrifying tribute to classic rock hits from the likes of Styx, Foreigner, Journey, and Queen. With a talented lineup and stunning visuals, the show is sure to be a highlight of this year’s festival, inviting fans to sing along and relive the golden era of rock ‘n’ roll.
