LOST BETWEEN THE ROADS captures impermanence with instrumental post rock music.
Lost Between The Roads, the solo instrumental post-rock project of Italian musician Antonio La Rocca, also known as WeiR, recently released its debut single, “Fading Lights,” on July 9, 2025. This track artfully combines ambient textures, understated melodies, and a quiet emotional crescendo, reflecting La Rocca’s ever-changing experience of time and place. The entire composition, including composition, performance, recording, mixing, and mastering, was meticulously crafted in his home studio, showcasing La Rocca’s solo and intentional approach to music production.
The inspiration behind “Fading Lights” originates from La Rocca’s journey through physical and emotional transitions over the past decade. Constantly on the move between various cities and countries due to external circumstances, La Rocca began to notice the gradual erosion of his familiar surroundings, which significantly influenced his internal world. He eloquently described this feeling of displacement, stating, “You rarely stop. You adapt. You lose touch with places, people, routines.” The title of the track, “Fading Lights,” symbolizes the disappearing daily anchors that have been replaced, faded, or left behind, with music being the only enduring “home” for La Rocca.
“Fading Lights” perfectly encapsulates a delicate balance with its blend of shimmering guitar lines, cinematic crescendos, and a fragile equilibrium, drawing inspiration from influential bands like Explosions in the Sky, Mogwai, and This Will Destroy You. Despite finding inspiration in multiple bands, one track stands out for La Rocca, acting as a guiding force for his artistic vision. Reflecting on Explosions in the Sky’s “Catastrophe and the Cure,” La Rocca admires the track’s ability to evoke raw emotions, leaving a lasting impact on him. He hopes to elicit a similar intensity in his own music, aiming to create moments of pure catharsis free from the noise of everyday life.
Having been involved in various alternative music projects in Sicily, including Before We Die, Diane and the Shell, and Near the Blockhouse, La Rocca decided to embark on a new journey with Lost Between The Roads, distancing himself from group efforts. Currently dividing his time between Spain and Italy, La Rocca utilizes Lost Between The Roads as an avenue to explore a more introspective, visually evocative sonic realm. Describing “Fading Lights” as a meditation on impermanence and memory, La Rocca draws inspiration from real-life locations he has encountered or inhabited. Forests, concrete landscapes, empty train stations, and rented rooms have each contributed to the unique soundscape of the track.
“Fading Lights” is now available for streaming on all major platforms, with an EP in the works, slated for release later this year. La Rocca’s musical endeavor aims to provide listeners with a glimpse into his intricate world of impermanence, memory, and emotional resonance, offering a moment of solace and raw emotion in a chaotic world. Stay tuned for more mesmerizing creations from Lost Between The Roads in the near future.
