Wilburton Theatre Group excels at Hunstanton Festival

The Wilburton Theatre Group displayed remarkable talent and creativity at the recent Hunstanton Drama Festival, where they showcased two one-act plays to great acclaim. These plays had been previously performed in Wilburton and were met with high praise. The group’s youth division kicked off the evening with a rendition of Macbeth the comedy, featuring a group of 14 young actors who captivated the audience with their performance.

Following the youth division’s compelling act, the adult cast took the stage with their engaging play, Meat and Two Veg, performed by three talented members. The group had dedicated three months to rehearsing and perfecting every detail of both plays, which paid off immensely at the Hunstanton Festival. The Wilburton Theatre Group was honored with six silver trophies in different categories and two nominations, underscoring their exceptional talent and dedication.

This year’s success at the festival marked another milestone for the Wilburton Theatre Group, which has been delivering stellar performances for over a decade. Among the notable award recipients were Parker Braybrooke, who received the Jim Farr Cup for Best Male Actor (Youth) for his portrayal of Banquo in Macbeth, and Elizabeth Smith, who won the Ann Munzer Cup for Best Female Actor (Youth) for her role as the narrator in Macbeth.

David Blaikie was awarded the Mudie Cup for Best Male Actor (Adult) for his performance as Arthur in Meat and Two Veg, while Mary Wade claimed the Hathaway Cup for Best Female Actor (Adult) for her role as Margaret in the same play. The group also secured prestigious awards, including the Princess Theatre Cup for Best Technical Presentation and the Williamson Cup for Best Youth Production, both for their performance of Macbeth.

Looking ahead, the Wilburton Theatre Group is gearing up for auditions for their upcoming December pantomime, Rapunzel, set to take place on July 22 and 27.
