Lukas Creswell-Rost Premieres New Video “Correspondent”
Lukas Creswell-Rost, hailing from Yorkshire, recently unveiled a music video for his song “Correspondent,” off his latest album Weight Away. The album, now available on Wayside & Woodland Recordings, encapsulates ideas conceived during his 15-year residency in Berlin but brought to completion after his return to the UK.
The track “Correspondent” serves as a poignant reflection of the album’s overall tone. Creswell-Rost drew inspiration for the title from the BBC Radio 4 show ‘From Our Own Correspondent’. This notion intersected with a profound contemplation on loss, as he expressed, “if someone has passed on, they might as well be based on the other side of the world… like a correspondent sending back reports as memories.” The idea of locations retaining a distinct “special energy” upon someone’s departure emerges as a central motif. The musical backbone, highlighted by the drumming talents of long-time collaborator James Yates, was originally captured during a live recording session in 2017. Despite initially downplaying his own performance, Creswell-Rost revisited the raw recordings years later, layering new elements to enrich the song’s composition.
Continuing a visual thread from his prior single ‘Spiral Island,’ the music video for “Correspondent” showcases the artist traversing through various evocative landscapes. Shot during a recent tour of Germany and the Swiss Alps, the footage is meticulously curated to weave a narrative that surpasses the sum of its individual parts.
Presenting a poignant gateway into the realm of Weight Away, “Correspondent” epitomizes the album’s skillful balancing act of heavy lyrical themes surrounding loss and mental health with intricately crafted and sonically dense arrangements. This juxtaposition results in an ambitious and emotionally engaging voyage that seeks solace in reflecting on the past.
Weight Away is now available on Wayside & Woodland Recordings, with the option to order through Bandcamp. Lukas Creswell-Rost’s latest work stands as a testament to his introspective songwriting and musical prowess, inviting listeners into a world teeming with raw emotion and profound storytelling.
