Chappell Roan’s new single includes a shoutout to Saskatchewan – Regina Leader Post
Chappell Roan, the talented 28-year-old singer from Pink Pony Club, is once again drawing attention to Saskatchewan with her latest single, “The Subway.” Teasing the release of the track on social media, Roan highlighted a specific section of the song that mentions moving to the province.
Her Instagram post reads, “The Subway out July 31 8pm EST,” creating anticipation among her fans for the song’s release. Roan first performed “The Subway” live at the Governors Ball Music Festival in New York back in June 2024, where she surprised the audience with a shoutout to Saskatchewan.
During her performance, Roan sang, “Made you the villain. Evil for just moving on. I see your shadow. I see it even with the lights off. I made a promise, if in four months this feeling ain’t gone. Well, f–k this city, I’m movin’ to Saskatchewan,” receiving cheers and applause from the crowd. Fans have since embraced the mention of Saskatchewan in the song, eagerly singing along whenever “The Subway” is played at music festivals.
In a December 2024 interview with popular celebrity interviewer Nardwuar, Roan discussed the inspiration behind the Saskatchewan reference in her song. She explained, “Saskatchewan, I was like, it’s in one of my new songs that hasn’t come out yet. It’s called The Subway. I was looking at venues there to try to play a show there. I owe it to them. I can’t sing a song about Saskatchewan and not go there and play a show.”
Roan’s commitment to connecting with her fans and honoring the references in her music is evident in her desire to perform in Saskatchewan after mentioning the province in her song. With her unique sound and genuine appreciation for her audience, Chappell Roan continues to captivate listeners and share her music in a way that resonates with fans, including those in Saskatchewan.
