Singer Remus Choy makes stage comeback after brain surgery
Remus Choy, a member of the popular Hong Kong pop group Grasshopper, made a triumphant return to the stage on July 27, marking his first performance since undergoing brain surgery in October 2024. This special appearance took place at fellow singer Kelly Chen’s concert at the Hong Kong Coliseum. Grasshopper is comprised of Choy, along with his brother Calvin Choy and Edmond So, all pioneers in the Cantopop music scene. Prior to this performance, the trio’s last show together was in Foshan, China, back in August of the previous year.
Adorned in white attire, Grasshopper and Chen delivered an energetic performance, enchanting the audience with their renditions of the high-tempo songs “Beat The Heat Wou Bom Ba” (1993) and “Open The Sky” (1995). Choy appeared to be in top form, showcasing his vocal prowess and dance moves with vigor and enthusiasm. Additionally, the group unveiled their latest track, “Lou Dik Lat,” translating to “Old Is Spicy” in Cantonese, much to the delight of the spectators. On stage, Choy expressed gratitude towards Chen for her unwavering support during his health ordeal, citing her as the first person to reach out to him following his brave revelation about his brain tumor surgery last year.
Choy reminisced about the longstanding friendship and shared history between Grasshopper and Chen, dating back to her debut in 1995. Their collaborative efforts have spanned over a decade, with their most recent joint performance occurring approximately 10 years ago when Chen was a guest performer at one of Grasshopper’s concerts. Seizing the moment, Choy took the opportunity to announce Grasshopper’s upcoming concert at the Hong Kong Coliseum in April 2026, extending an invitation to Chen to join them as a guest performer.
Kelly Chen’s concert on July 27 served as the grand finale of her ten-show “Season 2 Live In Hong Kong 2025” concert series. Originally slated for July 20, the event was rescheduled due to Typhoon Wipha, culminating in a memorable evening of musical entertainment for all in attendance. Since his surgery, Choy has been actively documenting his recovery journey on social media, sharing glimpses of his workouts at the gym and teasing fans with hints of new music projects in the works.
