Vulfpeck Performs ‘Tokyo Night’ with Maya Delilah at Fuji Rock Festival
Vulfpeck made their debut in Japan with a headline performance at the Fuji Rock Festival. The band invited English singer-songwriter Maya Delilah to join them on stage for the song “Tokyo Night,” a fitting choice for the occasion. It was a momentous occasion for the Michigan-based group, marking one of only three scheduled concerts for the year.
The lineup at the festival included founding members Jack Stratton, Theo Katzman, Woody Goss, and Joe Dart, along with regular collaborators Cory Wong, Antwaun Stanley, Joey Dosik, and Jacob Jeffries. The setlist drew from a variety of albums, starting with tracks from their 2016 release “The Beautiful Game.” They kicked off with “Animal Spirits,” “Cory Wong,” and “Daddy, He Got A Tesla” before moving on to other fan favorites like “Lonely Town” and “Tender Defender.”
Highlights of the performance included Antwaun Stanley’s soulful vocals on songs like “1612” and “3 On E,” as well as standout tracks like “Wait For The Moment.” The band later introduced Maya Delilah to the stage for a special rendition of “Tokyo Night,” originally performed by Evangeline on Vulfmon’s 2024 album “Dot.”
After Delilah’s guest appearance, Vulfpeck continued with tracks from their recent album “Clarity Of Cal,” such as “Big Dipper,” “Matter Of Time,” and “In Real Life.” They seamlessly transitioned between songs, with Dosik taking the lead on his solo number “Running Away” before diving back into the Vulfmon catalog with “How Much Do You Love Me?”
The set concluded with high-energy performances of “Christmas In L.A.,” “New Beastly,” and a crowd-pleasing rendition of “Back Pocket.” For the encore, Vulfpeck returned to the stage to perform “Dean Town” before bidding farewell to Japan.
The band’s performance at Fuji Rock was met with enthusiastic applause from the audience, culminating in a group bow as a recording of “Welcome To Vulf Records” played over the speakers. Overall, Vulfpeck’s first-ever show in Japan was a memorable experience for both the band and their fans, marking a significant milestone in their musical journey.
