Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath Hits Return to Canadian Charts
After the recent passing of the iconic frontman of Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, his legendary spirit continues to be felt in the music industry. Surprisingly, two tracks from Osbourne’s music catalog have made a reappearance on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100 dated August 2. “Mama, I’m Coming Home” has entered the chart at No. 39, while “Crazy Train” follows closely behind at No. 45. Both songs have also found spots on the Billboard Hot 100, ranking at No. 49 and 46, respectively. “Mama, I’m Coming Home” has resurfaced on the charts following Osbourne’s passing, while “Crazy Train” is a new addition. According to Billboard, older songs are eligible to re-enter the charts if they rank in the top half with a significant reason for their return, following the same criteria for the Canadian Hot 100.
Originally released on Osbourne’s sixth solo album “No More Tears” in 1992, “Mama, I’m Coming Home” did not initially chart but continues to be one of his most popularly streamed songs. Arguably his signature solo track, “Crazy Train,” from his debut solo album “Blizzard of Ozz” in 1980, has also made a resurgence. Moving to the Billboard Canadian Albums chart, two albums from Osbourne have made debut appearances. The compilation album “The Essential Ozzy Osbourne” has entered the Top 10 at No. 8, while Black Sabbath’s classic album “Paranoid” from 1970 has secured the No. 35 spot. Both albums had previously charted on the Billboard 200, currently holding positions at No. 7 and 37, respectively.
Osbourne’s solo work has been no stranger to the Canadian Albums chart since its inception in 2015. Six of his projects have reached the Top 10, with his 2022 album “Patient Number 9” peaking at No. 1 for a week. In the case of Black Sabbath, two of their albums have achieved Top 10 positions, with their 2013 album “13” reaching the top spot for a week post-release. Additionally, Tyler, The Creator has made a significant impact with his surprise album “Don’t Tap The Glass” after performing at some Canadian shows and headlining at the Osheaga music festival in Montreal. The album debuted on the Canadian Hot 100, with nine songs making an appearance, despite falling short on the Canadian Albums chart, entering at No. 6.
Diving deeper into the Canadian Hot 100, multiple artists are making waves on the rankings. Drake’s “What Did I Miss?” has dropped to No. 27 after peaking at No. 2, while Justin Bieber’s “Yukon” and Tate McRae’s “Sports Car” maintain strong positions on the chart. The Weeknd’s “São Paulo” featuring Anitta has also re-entered the chart at No. 90. Furthermore, country singer Josh Ross’s collaboration with Akon, “Drunk Right Now (Na Na Na),” has seen a decline from 67-70.
At the top of the music charts, Alex Warren holds strong at No. 1 with “Ordinary,” while Justin Bieber’s “Daisies” remains at No. 2. Sabrina Carpenter’s “Manchild” rises to No. 7, Benson Boone climbs to No. 8 with “Beautiful Things,” and Post Malone and Morgan Wallen’s collaboration, “I Had Some Help,” re-enters the Top 10, securing the No. 9 spot. On the Canadian Albums chart, Morgan Wallen reclaims the top spot with “I’m The Problem” following a temporary dethroning by Justin Bieber’s “Swag.”
