Hunter Root reveals upcoming album “Crooked Home” set for release on October 17
Pennsylvania-based musician, Hunter Root, recently announced the upcoming release of his new album, “Crooked Home,” set to be available on October 17 via Tolok. Root’s latest collection of songs is a deeply personal exploration of trauma, loss, and resilience, drawing from his own experiences and emotions. The album introduces its themes through the debut single, “’94,” a poignant track that delves into Root’s family dynamics, addiction struggles, and survival instincts.
Directed by Anders Osborne and recorded at Addiction Studios in Nashville by David Kalmusky, “Crooked Home” is a raw and intimate reflection of Root’s journey. The artist explains that the songs on the album are not intended to convey a particular message but rather serve as musical confessions. Collaborating with musicians like Chad Cromwell, Marc Rogers, and Lindsay Lou, Root weaves a narrative that touches on various aspects of his life, including the loss of his brother, battles with Lyme disease and chronic pain, as well as generational struggles with addiction.
Inspired by his acclaimed 2023 album, “Arkansas,” Root’s “Crooked Home” confronts his past head-on, digging deep into his emotional landscape. The lead single, “’94,” vividly illustrates the turbulent environment Root grew up in, depicting scenes of family dysfunction, substance abuse, and personal turmoil. With cover art featuring a childhood photo of Root and his late brother, the song captures a moment frozen in time, reflecting on the pain and resilience intertwined in Root’s story.
Lyrically, the album explores themes of grief, working-class challenges, physical suffering, and self-acceptance. Through a mix of acoustic rock, folk, and grunge influences, Root’s music style evolves, prioritizing storytelling and emotional depth. From introspective tracks like “My Brother’s Bones” to the defiant anthem “Out Of My Hands,” Root’s songwriting channels personal experiences into relatable narratives that resonate with listeners.
With “Crooked Home,” Hunter Root takes a bold step forward in his artistic journey, embracing vulnerability and growth. The album’s 12 tracks offer a glimpse into Root’s inner world, inviting audiences to connect with his authentic storytelling and musical craftsmanship. Root’s commitment to genuine expression and artistic integrity shines through in every note, making “Crooked Home” a compelling addition to his discography.
