Italian-born composer Luigi Porto has unveiled a new video for his song ‘Gabor ’25’ through Respirano Records, showcasing his distinctive noir-rock style. The nine-minute video-single, a reimagined version from his 2021 album “Tell Uric,” features Porto on vocals along with his band IDRA. The track, originally sung by Nefer Alexandra Linde, was recorded as a live studio performance in Italy, blending English and French lyrics to create a unique blend of chanson-style ballad and hard rock with influences from psych-rock and free jazz.

Thematically, “Gabor ’25” delves into the complexities of lost identity and class struggle, drawing from a personal family narrative. Porto delves into the story behind the song, describing it as a poignant tale of hidden truths and lost identity. The lyrics recount the real-life story of a girl who was sold as a newborn to a couple unable to conceive. Growing up in privilege, she is unaware of her true origins until a tragic turn of events unveils the secrets surrounding her birth, leading to a tragic end to her life, shrouded in unspoken truths.

Building on the themes explored in his previous album “Tell Uric,” which focused on the ramifications of societal class divisions, Porto brings depth to the narrative of “Gabor ’25” through the motif of descent – not just social but psychological as well. The song’s themes interplay with Porto’s personal history, offering a contemplative perspective on identity and social structures.

The music video, spanning over nine minutes, combines archival family footage with animated visuals by Italian painter Giovanni Manganaro. These visuals seamlessly transition between the realms of figuration and abstraction, intertwining personal history with artistic storytelling. Porto describes the animation as adding a layer of physicality and abstract depth to the narrative, blurring the lines between memory and myth.

Based in New York, Luigi Porto is a versatile composer and performer whose music combines elements of noir-rock, classical influences, and experimental sounds. His portfolio includes solo works as well as collaborations, such as his venture with the art-rock duo Manicburg. With his 2021 album “Tell Uric,” Porto shifted his focus towards integrating personal experiences with broader philosophical inquiries into identity and societal constructs.

Luigi Porto’s artistic journey is underpinned by his record label, Respirano Records, which has been instrumental in supporting his creative endeavors. Through his music, Porto continues to push boundaries and explore the complexities of human experiences, bridging the gap between personal narratives and universal themes of identity and belonging.
