Lord Huron mesmerized the audience at Madison Square Garden in their largest headlining show in New York City to date. As part of their 2025 Cosmic Selector tour promoting their new album, The Cosmic Selector Vol. 1, this concert was a significant milestone for the band.

Opening the evening was Waxahatchee, also known as Katie Crutchfield. She delivered a compelling performance drawing heavily from her acclaimed albums Tigers Blood (2024) and Saint Cloud (2020). Included in her set were her latest single, “Much Ado About Nothing,” and a poignant cover of Kathleen Edwards’ “Six O’Clock News.”

Formed in 2010 by Ben Schneider, Lord Huron has become a beloved figure in indie folk music. Their distinct mix of mythical Americana and spectral storytelling has garnered them a dedicated following. The band catapulted to fame when their song “The Night We Met” from the 2015 album Strange Trails was featured on Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why. It became a massive hit in 2024 with almost a billion streams on Spotify.

The band’s performance at Madison Square Garden was an immersive experience. The elaborate stage design was a display of cosmic Western surrealism, featuring a glowing jukebox that appeared to control fate and a vintage payphone used theatrically during songs. The visual elements shifted between desert and forest landscapes, creating an ethereal atmosphere that enhanced their storytelling.

The show was structured as a mythical journey, incorporating narrative vignettes featuring characters from their Whispering Pines universe, showcasing the band’s expertise in storytelling. The concert opened with tracks from the new album, leading into a retrospective of their career hits.

Singer Allison Ponthier joined Lord Huron in a touching duet of “I Lied,” a collaboration from her 2021 release Long Lost. With dreamlike ballet footage playing in the background, the performance blurred the lines between memory, longing, and destiny.

The main set ended powerfully with “Meet Me in the Woods” and “The Night We Met,” receiving an enthusiastic response from the crowd. The encore featured a reprise of “The Night We Met” followed by “Not Dead Yet,” a message of embracing the unpredictability of life.

The Cosmic Selector tour commenced in July, with plans to continue through Europe before returning to the US in the fall. Lord Huron’s performance at Madison Square Garden demonstrated their ability to captivate audiences and elevate their live shows to new heights, promising an otherworldly experience for fans.
