Blackpool restaurant rebrands to attract Rebellion punk festival attendees
A popular diner in Blackpool has embraced the spirit of the annual Rebellion punk festival by changing its name for the week. The West Coast Rock Café will be hosting 21 Californian bands as part of the festival’s fringe events from Wednesday to Sunday. Owner Robert Wynne, along with his wife Gaynor, opened the café in 1987 with the vision of creating a place where young couples and families could enjoy affordable dining, coupled with the novelty of satellite TV and a menu featuring creative burgers and other light fare.
The West Coast Rock Café, temporarily renamed the West Coast Punk Rock Café, is enthusiastic about welcoming both fans and musicians during the week-long celebration of Rebellion festival. The main festival, taking place at Blackpool Winter Gardens from Thursday to Sunday, showcases over 300 bands, with performances also happening at various other locations in the town. Robert, a former mayor of Blackpool, is a successful businessman and a familiar face in the local community. Despite his tenure in local politics, he is fully immersed in the festival fever and looks forward to the vibrant atmosphere it brings to Blackpool.
With decades of experience in the hospitality industry, Robert values Rebellion festival as an essential event for the town center and its businesses. He emphasizes the global significance of the festival within the punk rock community, drawing bands and fans from all over the world. The festival’s inclusive nature has expanded to include various venues around Blackpool, providing a diverse and lively experience for attendees. Bands and fans alike contribute to the festival’s unique ambiance, characterized by creativity and a lack of trouble, making it a standout event in the town’s calendar.
Robert acknowledges the Winter Gardens as an ideal venue for the festival, accommodating both large audiences for renowned bands and intimate settings for lesser-known acts. Despite his past involvement in local politics, Robert has no desire to return to that sphere and instead focuses on enhancing the hospitality scene in Blackpool. His commitment to providing a welcoming atmosphere at the West Coast Punk Rock Café during the festival week reflects his dedication to creating enjoyable experiences for festival-goers.
As a pillar of the local community, Robert’s establishments, including the West Coast Rock Café, the Rose and Crown, and the Brew Room, continue to thrive, offering locals and visitors alike a taste of Blackpool’s vibrant hospitality scene. The West Coast Punk Rock Café’s temporary rebranding captures the essence of Rebellion festival’s energetic spirit, inviting all to join in the celebration of punk rock culture in Blackpool.
