Rainbow Kitten Surprise, the beloved alt-rock band hailing from Nashville, received an unexpected proposition from Fred Again.., the British dance musician. Ela Melo, who has led the band since its inception with guitarist Darrick Keller at North Carolina’s Appalachian State University over ten years ago, found Fred Again..’s music intriguing. The initial contact led to a collaborative effort, with Melo and her bandmates submitting song ideas to Fred Again.. “They’d be like, ‘That’s not it, but keep sending stuff,’” Melo noted.

After an outpouring of creativity, Rainbow Kitten Surprise found themselves with nearly 160 songs written. Despite the uncertainty surrounding their feature with Fred Again.., the band had been busy. This flurry of creativity culminated in their upcoming album, “Bones,” scheduled for release on September 26 by Atlantic Records. Unlike their previous album, “Love Hate Music Box,” which spanned 22 tracks and featured a collaboration with Kacey Musgraves on “Overtime,” the new album is a concise 10-track collection produced by Jay Joyce.

Melo attributes the quick and easy process of creating “Bones” to the band’s genuine inspiration and creative flow. The album possesses a raw quality with melodic tunes, swapping out the synth-heavy, layered productions of “Love Hate Music Box” for more electric guitars and live drum sounds. The production process for this album contrasts starkly with its predecessor, which took six years to complete.

As of now, Fred Again..’s involvement status remains uncertain. Despite this, “Bones” stands as a testament to Rainbow Kitten Surprise’s artistic talent and ability to produce meaningful music. The evolution in sound and style between the band’s latest album and the previous one shows their versatility and willingness to experiment with new musical elements.

Anticipation is high for “Bones” as fans eagerly await Rainbow Kitten Surprise’s latest offering. The album represents a significant milestone for the band and mirrors their commitment to growth and evolution in their musical journey. With the release of “Bones” drawing near, audiences can expect a heartfelt and honest masterpiece that reflects Rainbow Kitten Surprise’s creativity and passion for music.
