Robert Plant recently expressed his condolences for the passing of fellow British musician Terry Reid, who passed away on August 4 at the age of 75 after battling cancer. Known as “Superlungs,” Reid was notable for recommending Plant to Jimmy Page after refusing an offer to join Page’s new band, which eventually became the legendary Led Zeppelin.

Recalling their early days, Plant took to Facebook to share his memories of Reid, stating, “Terry Reid’s enthusiasm and encouragement were incredible back then… still teenagers, we crashed each other’s gigs and crucified ‘Season of the Witch’ time and time again… So much fun. So on it. He was all of everything… such charisma.” Plant fondly remembered Reid’s voice, range, and captivating songs that epitomized the carefree era of their youth. Plant also confessed to shedding a tear while listening to Reid’s album “The River,” reminiscing about the profound impact Reid had on his musical journey.

Despite mourning the loss of his friend, Plant has been proactive on the music front with the announcement of a new solo album alongside his new backing band, Saving Grace. Titled after the band itself, the album marks Plant’s first solo release since 2017’s “Carry Fire” and his collaborative effort with Alison Krauss in 2021’s “Raise The Roof.” Embracing a new vocal dynamic, Plant expressed his delight in sharing vocal duties with Suzi Dian alongside his previous collaborations with artists like Patty Griffin.

Plant praised Dian’s unique vocal style and passion, highlighting the natural synergy they found in their musical partnership. Saving Grace’s rendition of Low’s “Everybody’s Song” serves as the lead single from the upcoming album, which is set to be released on September 26 and available for pre-order on Nonesuch.com. Plant’s musical journey continues to evolve, with Saving Grace representing a fresh, collaborative venture that showcases his adaptability and appreciation for diverse vocal styles.

In the ever-changing landscape of rock music, artists like Robert Plant continue to push creative boundaries and explore new musical territories. By honoring the legacy of Terry Reid while embarking on new musical endeavors, Plant embodies the spirit of artistic evolution and pays homage to the profound influence of his musical peers. As fans eagerly anticipate the release of Saving Grace’s new album, Plant’s enduring passion for music and collaboration remains a testament to his status as a rock legend.
