Video shows arrest of suspect in Scissortail Park shooting – Local news outlet
The capture of a shooting suspect in Oklahoma City has been captured on video as police surrounded the suspect’s home. The suspect, 20-year-old Kaziya Penn, was taken into custody for allegedly shooting a teenager after a Thunder finals game back in June.
The shooting incident occurred at Scissortail Park on June 22, as fans were leaving the Thunder game. Investigators were able to link Penn to the shooting through spent shell casings found at the scene. Shortly after the shooting, Penn had his first encounter with law enforcement when he was pulled over near the Paycom Center. Body camera footage from the traffic stop showed an officer discovering a pistol in Penn’s waistband. As a result, Penn was arrested for carrying a weapon unlawfully and driving without a valid license.
Further investigation into the firearm recovered from Penn led authorities to confirm that it matched the gun used in the shooting at Scissortail Park that left a 14-year-old injured. Last week, Oklahoma City police obtained a search warrant for Penn’s residence in Midwest City. Body camera footage from the scene shows Penn being detained for questioning. According to court documents, Penn confessed to being present at Scissortail Park on the night of the shooting and admitted to carrying a Glock firearm. Penn claimed he was defending his cousin, who was under attack, but felt outnumbered, leading him to fire his gun at the group of individuals.
Penn is currently facing one charge of assault and battery with a deadly weapon and is being held in custody on a $150,000 bond. Additionally, he has been charged with unlawfully carrying a weapon following the discovery of a firearm during the traffic stop.
The incident highlights the law enforcement’s swift action in apprehending suspects involved in violent crimes and underscores the importance of thorough investigations in connecting individuals to criminal activities. The arrest of Kaziya Penn serves as a reminder of the dedication and commitment of authorities in ensuring public safety and holding offenders accountable for their actions.
