38th Naganuma Town Ekiden Race Scheduled for Domingo

The 38th annual Naganuma Town Ekiden Race is set to take place on September 23rd, 2025, come rain or shine. This event traces its origins back to the Naganuma-Mizusawa Friendship Relay Marathon in September 1987, organized to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Naganuma Town and its sister city, Mizusawa City. Over the years, this race has attracted numerous participants from both within and outside the town, traversing the scenic landscapes of Naganuma.

Participants in this year’s relay race can look forward to the competitive spirit as teams vie to prove their strength. Whether seasoned runners looking to challenge themselves or groups of friends seeking a shared experience, all are welcome to join in the excitement of this event.

The race is open to teams comprised of high school students or older, ensuring a level playing field for all participants. The course will start at the Naganuma Sports Center and culminate at the Naganuma Onsen, offering runners a scenic route through the picturesque town.

The event will kick off with a reception from 8:00 to 8:30 AM at the Naganuma Town Sports Center, followed by the opening ceremony at 8:30 AM. The race is scheduled to start at 9:30 AM, adjacent to the Sports Center, and will conclude with a closing ceremony around 12:30 PM at the Naganuma Onsen Square.
