This Afro-Cuban Jazz sextet project is an ode to Latin Jazz, Latin America, and the rhythms that have influenced Flores throughout his life. Set to be available on CD and all streaming services, the album features nine captivating tracks showcasing the legendary talent of Grammy-winning musicians.
Flores describes “Armando Mi Conga” as a vibrant assemblage of Latin Jazz and Afro-Cuban Jazz, combining technical expertise with heartfelt expression. His compilation of eight original songs, along with a bonus track featuring a solo piano rendition of “With Amanda en Favignana,” takes listeners through various significant moments in the artist’s life. The lead single, the eponymous title track, will be released on August 8th to set the stage for the album’s arrival.
Born in Veracruz and raised amidst the rich Afro-Cuban rhythms of the Gulf of Mexico, Flores’s childhood was steeped in the music of Cuba. The son of a bandleader father who toured extensively across the Americas, Flores cultivated a deep love for music from a young age. Starting his musical journey with the organ and later mastering the alto saxophone, he eventually moved to Mexico City to pursue a career in music—a decision that paved the way for his eventual relocation to the United States.
Flores’s artistic journey culminates in “Armando Mi Conga,” recorded live in New York City with an ensemble of esteemed musicians. This opus, years in the making, represents a melange of the artist’s life experiences—its composition a testament to sacrifice, dedication, and love. Featuring luminaries like Giovanni Hidalgo, Brian Lynch, Horacio “El Negro” Hernández, John Benitez, and Norbert Stachel, the album showcases Flores’s ability to curate extraordinary music through collaboration with top-tier talents.
Through collaborations with renowned artists like Poncho Sanchez and Airto Moreira, as well as successful projects like the ‘Tribute to Frank Sinatra’ with the San Diego Symphony, Flores has established himself as a masterful arranger and producer. His forthcoming performances in San Diego, Los Angeles, Tijuana, and other cities promise to captivate audiences with the brilliance of “Armando Mi Conga.”
Flores’s dedication to his craft and his unwavering passion for music have solidified his reputation as a jazz virtuoso.
