Rock the Kootenays has wrapped up its third successful edition, leaving behind lasting memories for all those who attended. The event took place under clear blue skies and a scorching sun, where staying in the shade and keeping hydrated were essential elements. The smooth and safe execution of the event was made possible by the hard work of the Cranbrook city staff and volunteers.

On Saturday, the festival kicked off with the Five Man Electrical Band, followed by Men Without Hats from Montreal, who took the audience back to the vibrant sounds of 1981. Frontman Ivan Doroschuk led an energetic performance, dancing and striking poses while delivering classic hits like “Pop Goes the World” and “Safety Dance,” as well as their latest release “I Love the ‘80s.” The Trews captivated the crowd with their dynamic set, with guitarist John-Angus MacDonald even venturing into the audience to create special moments and a sing-along experience. The night came to a rockin’ close with 54-40, joined by The Trews on stage for a memorable rendition of Ozzy Osbourne’s “Crazy Train” and their hit “Love You All.”

Sunday saw Haywire opening the day and winning over new fans by distributing branded can cozies to the audience. Stepping in for Saga, B.C.’s own Aaron Pritchett brought a mix of country music to the classic rock festival, which was well received by the attendees, some of whom danced along with his set. Pritchett surprised the audience by blending genres and slipping in some Beastie Boys into his performance. Sweet followed with their glam rock style, complete with guitar solos, a drum solo featuring a large gong, and the iconic cowbell sound. Headliner Colin James closed out the festival with a mesmerizing blend of blues, rock, and soul, showcasing his exceptional guitar skills.

The event successfully transported festival-goers back to the 1980s in both fashion and attitude, allowing everyone to relive the magic of that era. The photos from the event captured the spirit and energy of the performances, illustrating the fun and excitement that filled the days of Rock the Kootenays.
