Acadians celebrate ‘Quinzou’ with festive activities
Residents of New Brunswick with Acadian heritage commemorated their national day recently by partaking in festivities that included food, music, and the customary Tintamarre marches. Celebrated on August 15th, this day holds significant historical importance for the Acadian community in the region.
Acadian Day has been observed since 1881, marked by the first national Acadian convention held in Memramcook. The National Acadian Day Act was officially sanctioned by the federal government in 2003. This day resonates across New Brunswick, certain areas of Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island, where communities honor their heritage through traditional customs such as sharing meals, enjoying music, and coming together with loved ones.
In Dieppe, the City hosted a series of festivities that spanned an entire day, commencing with a creative workshop in the morning featuring activities like crafting headbands, noisemakers, and coloring shirts. The event also included live music performances, including a concert by Acadian rock group, 1755. Meanwhile, in Moncton, the Acadie Rock festival attracted crowds with local musicians entertaining the attendees.
