New Lobby Display at New York State Museum Features The Beatles
The New York State Museum has unveiled a new lobby display titled “Here Are The Beatles!” that pays homage to the iconic 1965 performance by the Fab Four at Shea Stadium. This historic event took place on August 15, 1965, with over 55,000 enthusiastic fans flooding into the home of the New York Mets to witness John, Paul, George, and Ringo in action. The band performed a set list of 12 songs, including classics like “Twist and Shout” and “A Hard Day’s Night,” although the noise from the crowd was so overwhelming that the music was barely audible.
This concert marked a significant moment in music history as it was the first major stadium performance by a rock band in the United States. The impact of this event is still felt today, as it paved the way for numerous large-scale music concerts. The lobby display at the New York State Museum aims to transport visitors back to this cultural milestone through a combination of vibrant graphics, rare photographs, and insights from the band.
Carrie Ross, the Director of Exhibitions, highlighted the unique connection between the Beatles and New York City, stating that the display serves as a tribute to the night when the world’s biggest band met the world’s greatest city. The exhibit offers a nostalgic journey into the past, capturing the essence of that unforgettable concert and its enduring legacy.
“Here Are The Beatles!” will be available for viewing in the Museum’s lobby throughout the fall season. The exhibit is open to the public free of charge during regular museum hours.
