Reading & Leeds Festival is back this week, showcasing new headliners to grace the stage. This year, alongside UK rock icons Bring Me The Horizon, the festival features newer headliners like Travis Scott, Hozier, and Chappell Roan. It’s a significant moment for Roan, who, despite having limited UK exposure, made waves with a three-night run at O2 Academy Brixton in 2024 and recently hit No.1 on the UK charts with “The Subway,” showcasing her rapid rise in the industry.

The festival booker, Jon Mac, expressed excitement about having Chappell Roan on board, emphasizing her status as an emerging festival headliner. He also acknowledged the hard work put in by Travis Scott, who has climbed the festival ranks, along with the longstanding history that Bring Me The Horizon shares with Reading & Leeds, and Hozier’s return since his 2014 appearance. Melvin Benn, the managing director of Festival Republic, highlighted the festival’s commitment to growth and evolution, aiming to meet audience demands with a blend of historic acts and fresh voices.

In an effort to diversify its music offerings, Reading & Leeds has introduced a new underground electronic stage at both locations and expanded its late-night options for avid dancers. While the festival’s rock roots are deep, Mac emphasized its diversity and openness to new genres, reminiscing about acts like Public Enemy who graced the stage earlier in its history. The inclusion of new artists like Fred Again.. showcases the festival’s dedication to showcasing emerging talent and providing them with a platform to shine.

The upcoming event follows a successful 2024 edition, which earned Reading & Leeds the Music Week Awards Festival trophy. Mac expressed gratitude for the recognition, attributing it to the support of artists, managers, and labels who appreciate the festival’s contributions to the music industry. As the new wave of headliners takes center stage this year, fans can anticipate a weekend filled with memorable performances, diverse genres, and a celebration of emerging talent alongside established acts.
