Devo has been nominated for entry into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame multiple times but has not been chosen for induction on any occasion. However, Devo’s co-founder and lead vocalist, Mark Mothersbaugh, is not discouraged by this. In an interview with Vulture, Mothersbaugh unveiled an “alternative plan” in case they never make it to the Rock Hall.

Mark Mothersbaugh lightheartedly mentioned that he is eyeing the purchase of a segment of land in proximity to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. He humorously explained, “I’m looking to buy a piece of the parking lot, like maybe one parking space adjacent to the museum.” In jest, Mothersbaugh shared his unconventional plan involving the parking lot and the band’s “remains”: “In Ohio, they have very lax laws on where you can bury remains… I was thinking I would transfer all of Devo’s remains to that one parking spot. We’d just dig down underneath it and bury everybody.”

Moreover, Mark Mothersbaugh whimsically suggested, “So if we weren’t in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, we could be adjacent to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. That would take some of the pressure off.” He even joked that visitors could still park on top of their potential resting place, stating, “If you help us get the parking spot right next to the Rock Hall, I’ll make sure you get a free parking permit whenever you’re there.”

In addition to their humorous backup plan, Devo has a busy schedule of upcoming performances for the rest of 2025. The band is slated to open for My Chemical Romance in Chicago on Aug. 29 and then perform at the Shaky Knees festival in Atlanta on Sept. 21. Following these events, they will have a headline show at the Cosmic De-Evolution on Sept. 24 in Toronto. For a detailed list of scheduled shows, you can visit ClubDevo.com.

For Devo and Mark Mothersbaugh, the focus is on their music and performances regardless of their status with the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The band moves forward with a cheeky sense of humor and an eagerness to entertain their fans at live shows across different venues throughout the year. Their unique approach sets them apart and engages their audience with their music and amusing anecdotes.
