.NI has a rich musical lineage, with Leslie ‘Hutch’ Hutchison, a cabaret icon from the pre-WWII era, as her great-uncle. Since her debut in 2016 with “You & I,” ALA.NI has distinguished herself with self-produced torch songs that led to performances on TV shows like Later… with Jools Holland and a Tiny Desk Concert. Her 2020 album “ACCA” showcased intricate arrangements incorporating beatbox and vocal textures, earning her accolades and featuring collaborations with notable figures like LaKeith Stanfield and Iggy Pop.

ALA.NI’s upcoming album “Sunshine Music” explores the warmth of her experiences in Barbados, Grenada, and Jamaica against the backdrop of a Paris winter. It melds influences from calypso, jazz, bossa nova, and classic postwar songs, with ALA.NI’s evocative vocals tying it all together. The album also delves into more profound themes, such as reparations, colonialism, and personal anecdotes woven into tales of survival and self-reflection.

The single “Ton Amour” infuses dancehall rhythms with jazz and pop elements to create a unique, almost ominous soundscape. The accompanying music video, shot in Jamaica, narrates a personal story that inspired the song. ALA.NI shared that the track was born from an unsettling encounter with a disturbing individual in Jamaica, reflecting on the pervasive issue of femicide in the country and drawing from her own experiences to craft the poignant song.

With her roots in Grenada and upbringing in London, ALA.NI’s music reflects a diverse cultural background that shapes her distinctive sound and storytelling. Collaborating with a range of artists from different genres, ALA.NI has cemented her position as a versatile and enigmatic voice in the music industry. As she continues to explore new territories musically and thematically, ALA.NI’s upcoming album promises to be a rich tapestry of emotions, history, and personal growth.

“Sunshine Music” is set to release on September 19 via No Format Records, offering listeners a glimpse into ALA.NI’s musical evolution and her deep-rooted connections to culture, heritage, and humanity. Don’t miss out on this soulful journey through sound and storytelling with ALA.NI’s latest work.
