Get ready for some brand-new rock-adjacent albums that are set to hit the music scene within the next two months. If you have a taste for sludgy rock, experimental love songs, sassy tunes with surprises like a baritone saxophone thrown in, or some scuzzy egg punk, these upcoming releases are sure to pique your interest.

First up, we have New York-based rock band bloodsports, who are getting ready to unveil their debut album, “Anything Can Be A Hammer,” on October 17. With singles like “Rosary” and the recent track “Calvin,” bloodsports deliver a heavy, drudgy rock sound. While “Calvin” embodies a standard rock vibe reminiscent of the Pixies, “Rosary” meanders through a muddy terrain until it’s pierced by guitar riffs that mimic the squeals of a pig at slaughter. Catch bloodsports live at the Sabu Title Fest in Brooklyn on August 23, followed by a performance at New York’s Night Club 101 on August 30.

Next, we have Nashville punks Snooper, set to release their album “Worldwide” on October 3. The album release show will take place at Eastside Bowl on the same night. Snooper’s latest single, “Guard Dog” takes egg punk in a smoother direction while maintaining a touch of chaotic fuzz and scuzz. According to guitarist Connor Cummins, “Worldwide” is all about experimentation and change, while vocalist Blair Tramel describes “Guard Dog” as a track that touches on topics like losing and gaining perspective, finding your voice, and learning how to use it, all while emphasizing the importance of having fun.

Tchotchke will also be dropping their latest album, “Playin’ Dumb,” on September 5, with the release of the title single already out. This twee trio presents light, jangly tunes and airy harmonies that depict a narrative of reluctantly going along with an insecure boyfriend. Each lyric is a hit to the fragile male ego, showcasing a blend of eye-rolling exasperation and the ability to grin and bear it. Tchotchke will also be joining Hunx and His Punx on a brief tour from September 9 to the 16.

Lastly, experimental duo Total Wife is gearing up to release their album “Come Back Down” on September 19, with the single “make it last” having been recently dropped. Initially described as a “horny song,” the track evolved into a dreamy, off-kilter sound that envelops the listener like a comforting embrace. Vocalist Ash Richter explains that the song serves as a love letter to the road, an ode to the passage of time shrouded in the excitement of life’s experiences.

These upcoming releases offer a diverse array of sounds and themes that are sure to captivate rock enthusiasts and music lovers alike. Stay tuned for these new albums hitting the scene soon.
