Dayseeker drops latest single “Shapeshift” and unveils upcoming album “Creature In The Black Night”
Southern California’s post-hardcore group, Dayseeker, has recently released their latest single, Shapeshift, accompanied by a visualizer. The track is a prelude to their upcoming album, Creature In The Black Night, set to drop on the 24th of October through Spinefarm Records.
Lead singer Rory Rodriguez shares that Shapeshift delves into his personal struggles, reflecting on the constant anxiety that he grapples with on a daily basis. He describes it as an introspective piece, serving as a conversation with himself about how this anxiety alters and transforms his being.
Shapeshift follows the band’s previous teasers, Crawl Back To My Coffin and Pale Moonlight, setting the tone for an album that promises a darker and heavier sound compared to their past works. Produced by Daniel Braunstein and mixed by Zakk Cervini, Creature In The Black Night marks Dayseeker’s most ambitious project to date, offering listeners a cohesive experience rooted in horror-inspired themes and an ominous aura.
While not a conventional concept album, Creature In The Black Night weaves together a narrative driven by horror imagery and Grim Reaper symbolism. Rodriguez acknowledges the unexpected twist in their musical direction, deviating from the perception that the band would lean towards a more commercial sound over time. Instead, the album embraces a raw and aggressive energy, with Rodriguez pushing his vocal limits and the band exploring heavier musical territories.
Having originated in Orange County, California in 2012, Dayseeker made a name for themselves within the post-hardcore and metalcore circuits. Initially comprised of Rory Rodriguez, Alex Polk, Andrew Sharp, and Mike Karle, the band has seen changes in their lineup over the years, with Rodriguez serving as the creative force behind their music. Today, Dayseeker consists of Gino Sgambelluri, Ramone Valerio, and Zac Mayfield, alongside Rodriguez.
Dayseeker’s music has always stood out for its emotive melodies and candid lyrical content, addressing themes such as mental health, grief, and personal crises. While their debut album, What It Means To Be Defeated, introduced them to audiences with its raw emotion, subsequent releases like Origin and Dreaming Is Sinking /// Waking Is Rising solidified their place in the post-hardcore genre.
Signing with Spinefarm Records expanded Dayseeker’s fanbase, and albums like Sleeptalk and Dark Sun showcased their evolution towards more atmospheric and melodic soundscapes. Creature In The Black Night appears to mark a return to their roots in heavier music, signaling a new chapter for the band as they fuse their hardcore origins with the cinematic elements they have honed over the years.
Set to tour extensively in 2025, Dayseeker will also be performing at the Good Things Festival later this year in Australia, sharing the stage with renowned acts like Tool, Weezer, and All Time Low. With Shapeshift out now and Creature In The Black Night on the horizon, Dayseeker’s trajectory in 2025 seems poised for a significant breakthrough, balancing their past with a bold step into uncharted musical territories.
