Chalk, the Belfast electronic post-punk band, has undergone a change as they transition into a duo and have signed with ALTER Music, a New York City-based label. Their recent single, “Pain,” marks their first release as a duo, comprised of Ross Cullen and Benedict Goddard, with former drummer Luke Niblock having departed. This single sets the stage for their upcoming US tour slated for November, along with the anticipated release of their debut album in 2026.

The track, produced by Chris Ryan, delves into themes of vulnerability and the complex emotions that accompany loss. According to Benedict Goddard, “I started writing from the perspective of wanting to feel untouchable, but it became more about how vulnerability can overtake you. As I wrote, I realised parts of it connected to losing a friend when I was younger, and how that shaped my understanding of life’s fragility.”

To enhance the message of the song and capture its essence, they opted for a gritty yet nostalgic feel for the accompanying video. Using the same camera utilized in ‘28 Days Later,’ the footage exudes authenticity and complements the overarching themes explored in both the song and the forthcoming album. Goddard expressed his enthusiasm for this new chapter in the band’s journey, stating that “This is the beginning of the new era of Chalk.”

In addition to their recent release, Chalk has a series of live dates lined up, including appearances at prestigious venues across the US and Europe. The band is set to perform alongside Fontaines D.C. at Belfast Vital and is scheduled for shows in London, Amsterdam, Vancouver, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York. These live dates will provide fans with an opportunity to experience Chalk’s dynamic sound and captivating performances in person.

Chalk has a strong online presence across various platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Bandcamp, and TikTok. Their constant engagement with fans and followers allows them to build a loyal community that eagerly anticipates each new release and live performance. As they continue to expand their reach and evolve their sound, Chalk remains committed to delivering authentic and captivating music that resonates with audiences worldwide.

In conclusion, Chalk’s evolution into a duo and their partnership with ALTER Music marks a significant milestone in their musical journey. With the release of “Pain” and an upcoming US tour, the band is poised to make a lasting impact on the music scene with their unique blend of electronic post-punk. As they gear up for the release of their debut album in 2026, Chalk’s future looks bright as they continue to push boundaries and captivate audiences with their evocative music.
