and to shine. McBride’s upcoming album showcases a star-studded lineup of jazz vocalists, including Sting, Andy Summers, Samara Joy, Dianne Reeves, José James, Cécille McLorin Salvant, Jeffrey Osborne, and Antoinette Henry.

Reflecting on the creation of “Op. 49 – Cold Chicken Suite, 3rd Movement,” McBride humorously shared how the piece was inspired by his commissioned work for the North American Saxophone Alliance. The suite is dedicated to the official food of working musicians – cold chicken. He playfully references the late-night hunger pains that many musicians experience after gigs, where a cold chicken meal becomes a saving grace.

In addition to the teaser for “Op. 39 – Cold Chicken Suite, 3rd Movement,” McBride has released other tracks, including a rendition of the classic jazz standard “Old Folks” with rising star Samara Joy and the lead track “Murder By Numbers,” reuniting Sting with his former bandmate Andy Summers for the first time since The Police’s reunion tour.

McBride’s musical journey has led him to collaborate with a diverse range of artists, from jazz legends like Chick Corea and Wynton Marsalis to pop icons like Billie Eilish and Celine Dion. Without Further Ado, Vol 1 represents a culmination of McBride’s artistic paths, breathing new life into reimagined classics and surprising listeners with fresh arrangements.

The album’s inception traces back to McBride’s role as musical director for the NJPAC Gala, where the Big Band served as the house band since 2012. Over the years, McBride accumulated stacks of music arrangements played only once during the Gala, prompting him to capture these pieces on record. The collaboration with esteemed vocalists on Without Further Ado, Vol 1 highlights the diverse talents of each artist, creating a captivating showcase of vocal jazz excellence.

With the release of Without Further Ado, Vol 1, McBride underscores the vibrancy and richness of the contemporary vocal jazz scene. The album’s multi-generational lineup of singers elevates the genre to new heights, from Samara Joy’s poignant rendition of “Old Folks” to Cécil Mclorin Salvant’s dynamic take on Cole Porter’s classic “All Through The Night.” The Christian McBride Big Band serves as the perfect backdrop for this vocal all-star game, combining elegance and fervor in a masterful display of musical prowess.

Looking ahead to 2026, McBride will embark on the inaugural McBride’s World at Sea cruise, where he will perform with his acclaimed bands and host a lineup of special guests, including Samara Joy. The event promises to be a celebration of jazz excellence and a testament to McBride’s enduring commitment to the past, present, and future of the genre.
