rsion of who we are. It’s about letting them come together, letting them harmonize, and realizing that goodbye isn’t really goodbye. It’s more like I’ll see you later. A collective story that never stops unfolding. I’m glad we opened this door into this reality of us making music together again.”The summer of 2025 also marked the return of Alabama Shakes to the live stage after eight years. Brittany Howard, who pursued a solo career in 2019, and bassist Zac Cockrell, who joined Howard’s solo band, reunited with guitarist Heath Fogg for a series of concerts at amphitheaters. However, it is not a complete reunion as the band’s original drummer Steve Johnson was excluded from the tour due to legal issues he faced during the band’s break. No information has been shared yet about the drummer featured on the new track “Another Life.” Nevertheless, Nashville drummer Lewis Wright has been providing percussion for the current Shakes tour while the band’s longtime auxiliary musician Ben Tanner is back on keyboards for the band. Alabama Shakes only released two albums during their initial run, “Sound & Color,” which won a Grammy award, and the 2012 debut “Boys & Girls.” Their debut album spawned the hit song “Hold On,” which remains their most streamed track on Spotify. The band’s second most streamed song is “Always Alright,” featured on the soundtrack of the 2012 film “Silver Linings Playbook.”Fans of Alabama Shakes can anticipate new music on the horizon as Howard, Fogg, and Cockrell are currently working on a new album. Speaking to NPR, Howard mentioned, “I feel like there may be a few songs that group similarly together, like, they sound like they belong in the same world. But for the most part, we just did whatever we wanted to. There’s some stuff that reminds me of garage Sly Stone. And there’s some things that I don’t know exactly what genre it would be. It’s just experimentation.”Alabama Shakes’ music has resonated with fans for years, and the anticipation for new material has been met with excitement. The band’s unique blend of soul, rock, and R&B continues to captivate audiences, and the release of “Another Life” marks an exciting new chapter in their musical journey. With their upcoming album in the works and a renewed energy for performing live, Alabama Shakes are set to continue making a powerful impact on the music scene for years to come.
