Highlighting Colorado Artists for September 2025
Hispanic Heritage Month, also known as Latin Heritage Month, is observed nationwide annually from September 15 to October 15. During September, in the Local 303 spotlight, we recognize the art and culture of the community by showcasing Colorado artists of Latin American descent. Throughout the month, we will highlight seven local artists who have released exciting new music.
The Hardly Nevers, a Southern Colorado band, is led by Chela Lujan, who gained prominence over a decade ago with her folk group The Haunted Windchimes. As one of the featured artists this month, Lujan emphasizes the importance of Chicanx/Latina/Hispanic artists taking the forefront. The Hardly Nevers bring a blend of alternative and pop reminiscent of the mid-’90s MTV era. Inaiah Lujan, Chela’s brother, recently joined the band, reuniting the siblings as bandmates. Inaiah Lujan’s solo work draws inspiration from 1950s and 1960s pop music. Indie 102.3 proudly presents a show featuring both siblings on September 21 at Manos Sagrados in Aurora.
Denver’s psychedelic Latin garage trio, The Savage Blush, has been active since 2014 and recently released a new song titled “Mapachtli,” which they describe as an anthem for warriors and dreamers. According to them, it carries a message of hope and resilience. Sour Magic, a psych-rock band from Denver, has released a new album called The Hive. Known for their energetic live performances, they will have two shows this month.
JD the M.C., who relocated to Colorado from Texas in 2016, has released a new album that reflects his identity as an activist and advocate for his community. myriadD.F., an alternative rock trio, has come out with their debut album, “Don’t Sleep.” Their influences include bands like At the Drive-In and Idles. Idle Freaks, a new rock band, will be embarking on their FREAKSHOW tour, with a Halloween show planned at Bar 404.
The Local 303 Meetup for this month will be held at a new venue, the Skylark Lounge in Denver on September 29 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Attendees can meet the featured artists, interact with Indie 102.3 hosts, enjoy a live set by The Savage Blush, participate in a music meeting to vote on new Colorado music, and enter to win tickets to upcoming concerts. The event, sponsored by Cambio Tequila, is open to individuals aged 21 and above and is free to attend.
In conclusion, Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to celebrate and recognize the contributions of Latin American artists in the Colorado music scene. Through their diverse styles and influences, these artists bring a richness and vibrancy to the local music community. Music lovers are encouraged to explore the National Hispanic Heritage Month playlist featuring artists from Colorado and beyond.
