The area surrounding Rockcastle Riverside in Kentucky is typically quiet and serene, but that all changes when the Rock Rebellion music festival comes to town during Labor Day Weekend. This event is in its second year, and while the inaugural festival faced some challenges, it was able to overcome them successfully. Jamey Stringfield, one of the festival organizers, recalled a stormy Friday during the first festival that raised concerns about potential early closures. Nevertheless, the beautiful setting of Rockcastle Riverside provided a protective shield from the inclement weather, ensuring that the festival could carry on uninterrupted.

Aside from weather-related challenges, the Rock Rebellion faced a more serious situation in its first year. When a gunman opened fire on Interstate 75 near the Rockcastle-Laurel County line, which was approximately two miles away from the Rockcastle Riverside campground, festival attendees were quickly informed of the situation. Despite the unsettling incident, Stringfield and the festival organizers decided to maintain composure and informed everyone about the active shooter. Fortunately, additional security measures were implemented, including the presence of state troopers and ATF officials, to ensure the safety of all attendees. The swift and efficient response from law enforcement authorities helped the festival continue without any disruptions.

Looking ahead to this year’s Rock Rebellion festival, organizers have planned increased security measures to uphold the safety of all participants. Additionally, an extra day has been added to the festival schedule this year, thanks to the Labor Day holiday, allowing for more music and entertainment. Stringfield mentioned that a total of 22 bands are lined up to perform during the weekend, with music starting on Friday evening and continuing until Sunday night. The festival has already sold out all available RV spots, indicating a high level of interest and participation from rock music enthusiasts.

Stringfield expects a bustling turnout of fellow rock fans at Rockcastle Riverside throughout the weekend, creating a vibrant and energetic atmosphere. Attendees have the option to purchase single-day tickets or opt for a full weekend pass, providing flexible choices for those interested in experiencing the diverse musical lineup. As the festival gears up for its second year, excitement is building among attendees and organizers alike, promising a memorable weekend filled with live music, community spirit, and the celebration of rock culture.
