Stray Kids Achieves 7th No. 1 on Billboard 200
Stray Kids has achieved a significant milestone by securing their seventh No. 1 on the prestigious U.S. Billboard 200 charts with their latest album, “Karma.” The album debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 this week, replacing Morgan Wallen’s “I’m the Problem,” as reported by Billboard on Sunday. This remarkable feat marks the seventh No. 1 for Stray Kids on this iconic chart, following their previous chart-toppers, including “Oddinary,” “Maxident,” “5-Star,” “Rock-Star,” “Ate,” and “Hop.”
Eclipsing fellow K-pop sensation BTS, Stray Kids are now leading the pack with the most No. 1 hits among K-pop acts on the Billboard 200. Notably, Stray Kids has carved out a unique place in Billboard history by being the only act to have all their albums debut at No. 1 on this coveted chart.
Last year, with their album “Hop,” Stray Kids made history by becoming the first group to debut at No. 1 with their first six entries on the Billboard 200. This extraordinary streak continues with the release of “Karma,” further solidifying their dominance. The Billboard 200 ranks albums based on their popularity in the United States, considering a mix of physical sales, track, and streaming equivalent album units.
Of the impressive 313,000 units garnered by Stray Kids, the majority, 296,000, were from physical album sales, setting a new record for the group. Streaming equivalent albums and track equivalent albums contributed 16,000 and 1,000 units, respectively, to the total count. In addition to “Karma,” the “KPop Demon Hunters” soundtrack retained its position as the second-highest album on the charts for five consecutive weeks, benefitting from the film’s releases and CD launches.
“Karma” is a significant album for Stray Kids, offering a growth narrative through its 11 tracks, including the lead single “Ceremony.” At a recent press conference in Seoul, the group members reflected on their journey, emphasizing the importance of staying true to their vision despite doubts and challenges. Rapper Changbin highlighted how the unwavering support from their fans and fellow members played a crucial role in their success, leading to the realization of their dreams.
Known for their distinct musical style, which blends intense hip-hop elements, Stray Kids have gained a reputation for producing what fans have coined “mala-flavored music.” The group’s music, spearheaded by the in-house producer team known as 3Racha, has resonated with audiences worldwide, and their compelling performances have captivated fans at international tours and music festivals.
