Lead singer of classic rock band announces hiatus from touring.
Renowned rock musician Chrissie Hynde recently took to social media to inform her loyal fans that she has no plans to embark on any tours with her famous band in the near future.
In an engaging Facebook post on August 11, the 73-year-old artist humorously admitted, “I’m sure you’ve all been waiting to hear from me…or not.” She teased about needing a nudge to prompt her to write a blog, which she received recently.
However, in a slightly disheartening revelation, the seasoned rockstar revealed that seeking out a performance by the Pretenders won’t be an option for fans in the foreseeable future. Despite this setback, Hynde offered her followers some solace, suggesting they catch performances by James Walbourne, her band’s guitar virtuoso, who is set to hit the road and release new music.
Narrating her experience watching Oasis with notable guests, Johnny Marr and James, Hynde painted a vivid picture of the dynamic performance by the band. She was particularly impressed by the band’s traditional rock sensibilities, characterized by a raw stage presence devoid of flashy lights and unnecessary distractions. Adding a touch of celebrity anecdotes, she relayed a tale of dancing with Kate Moss during Richard Ashcroft’s set, highlighting the supermodel’s endearing qualities.
Hynde also shared details about a captivating documentary titled “My Mom, Jayne” by Mariska Hargitay, which delves into the life of her mother, Jayne Mansfield, offering viewers an intriguing glimpse into the misunderstood Hollywood icon.
Transitioning from her artistic pursuits, the rock luminary took to overseeing a showcase of her paintings at Harvey & Woodd in Edinburgh, showcasing her artwork, all of which are available for purchase.
Amidst these updates, Hynde disclosed plans for a forthcoming duets album titled “Duets Special” where she collaborates with other iconic vocalists from the rock scene. Among the featured artists is her lead single partner, Rufus Wainwright, with whom she covers classics and standards in a harmonious blend.
In an interview with Consequence of Sound, Hynde reminisced about the genesis of the duets project, sharing that a conversation with Rufus Wainwright’s husband, Jörn, inspired the idea. Following a spur-of-the-moment suggestion, the album’s concept took shape in 2023, culminating in an exciting and unique collaboration.
The upcoming album is set to include contributions from several distinguished rock singers such as the late Mark Lanegan, Lucinda Williams, Cat Power, Julian Lennon, Debbie Harry, and Shirley Manson from Garbage. The highly anticipated album will be available on October 17th through Rhino, offering fans an eclectic assortment of collaborative tracks to enjoy.
