Radiohead announces 20 new live dates after 7-year hiatus
Radiohead, the iconic British rock band, is making a comeback after a seven-year hiatus from performing live. The band, comprised of Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, Ed O’Brien, Colin Greenwood, and Phil Selway, has announced a series of 20 concerts scheduled to take place in five cities across Europe: Madrid, Bologna, London, Copenhagen, and Berlin, in November and December. Each city will host the band for four nights of electrifying performances.
Their previous live performance was in 2018, supporting their album “A Moon Shaped Pool” released in 2016. While it remains uncertain whether Radiohead has new original material in the works, they recently revealed plans for a new live album titled “Hail to the Thief — Live Recordings 2003-2009” set to be released on October 31. Phil Selway expressed the band’s excitement and creativity when they reunited to rehearse after a seven-year break: “Last year, we got together to rehearse, just for the hell of it. After a seven-year pause, it felt really good to play the songs again and reconnect with a musical identity that has become lodged deep inside all five of us.”
Fans can register for tickets starting Friday on the band’s official website, Radiohead.com, with registration open for 60 hours. The general ticket sale will commence on September 15 for those who missed the registration window.
During their time away from the spotlight, the members of Radiohead were still active in the music scene. Yorke and Jonny Greenwood worked on a side project called “The Smile” which produced three albums, while Colin Greenwood joined Nick Cave’s live band. O’Brien released his solo debut album “Earth” in 2020, and Selway followed up with his third solo album, “Strange Dance,” in 2023.
The band’s decision to reunite for a series of live shows comes from a genuine desire to play together again, sparked by their collective joy during rehearsals. The statement released by Selway underlines the band’s eagerness to return to the stage and reconnect with their music: “It also made us want to play some shows together, so we hope you can make it to one of the upcoming dates. For now, it will just be these ones but who knows where this will all lead.”
Radiohead has always been known for pushing the boundaries of music and creating innovative sounds that resonate with fans worldwide. Their upcoming live performances are highly anticipated, promising to deliver memorable experiences for audiences across Europe.
