Brian Dunne’s new release “Max’s Kansas City” featured on New Jersey Stage
NYC-based musician Brian Dunne has recently released a new track titled “Max’s Kansas City,” a thought-provoking song that delves into the balance of seriousness and lightheartedness in the world. This song serves as a precursor to his upcoming album, “Clams Casino,” set to be released on September 5, 2025, under Missing Piece Records. To celebrate this release, Dunne will be performing at a special album release show at Mercury Lounge in New York City on September 5th, followed by a fall tour encompassing several cities including Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Nashville, and Philadelphia.
In describing his inspiration for “Max’s Kansas City,” Dunne shares, “This song is stream-of-consciousness lyrical madness about all the things that drive me nuts. I truly wrote it for myself. I was completely alone on a hellish tour of Europe, and it rained like 17 days I was there. I was like, ‘What does it all mean?’ I wrote this song to be like, ‘It means nothing.’ Loosen up! Have a beer. Talk to some strangers. So your fate has been predetermined, and you aren’t the bourgeoisie? That’s alright.”
“Clams Casino” stands out as a rock record that strikes a balance between inspiration and acknowledging the darker aspects of life. The lyrics of the album delve into scenes of contemporary despair, while the music itself offers a refreshing and resonant sound that sets it apart from Dunne’s previous works. With tracks like “Rockland County,” “I Watched The Light,” “Clams Casino,” and “Play The Hits” receiving early praise from notable sources like Pitchfork, Atwood Magazine, and Rolling Stone, it’s evident that Dunne’s latest album is a significant addition to his portfolio.
Self-produced in his home in Red Hook, Brooklyn, “Clams Casino” marks Dunne’s fourth solo album following his well-received 2023 release “Loser on the Ropes” and his previous successes with the group Fantastic Cat. Drawing inspiration from the classic rock era that flirted with the new wave trends of the late ’70s, Dunne incorporates keyboards and synths in a way that pays homage to the past while maintaining a contemporary edge.
Throughout his career, Dunne has shared the stage with various artists, collaborated with musicians such as Lizzie No and Caitlin Rose, and even achieved unexpected success with his standalone single “New Tattoo” in the Netherlands. Garnering critical acclaim and landing on “Best Albums” lists by reputable publications like SPIN and Boston Globe, Dunne’s previous album “Loser on the Ropes” set the stage for his budding solo career, paving the way for national television appearances and international performances.
With a tracklist featuring songs like “Clams Casino,” “Rockland County,” “Graveyard,” “Play The Hits,” and “Living It Backwards,” Dunne’s album promises a diverse and engaging listening experience. Taking his music on the road, Brian Dunne is set to perform in various cities, including New York, Vienna, Nashville, Indianapolis, and Boston, among others. With his upcoming tour dates lined up, fans and music enthusiasts can look forward to experiencing Dunne’s unique sound and captivating performances in person.
