Bruce Springsteen has made an exciting announcement that will surely thrill his fans. After years of anticipation, the fabled electric version of his renowned 1982 album “Nebraska” is set to be released. This album is considered one of the great lost albums in rock history and its impending release has stirred up a great deal of excitement among music enthusiasts.

The original version of “Nebraska” was a unique project for Springsteen, as it was recorded in the comfort of his bedroom in New Jersey. The stark, home-recorded album was created on a four-track tape recorder, deviating from the usual multitrack studio setup. Springsteen initially attempted to develop the songs into more polished versions, but found that the studio recordings lacked the haunting intensity of the original demos. Despite facing some confusion from his fans and record label, Springsteen chose to release the raw four-track recordings, straying away from the full-bodied sound of his previous hit albums like “Born to Run” and “The River.”

Nevertheless, “Nebraska” went on to achieve great success, reaching as high as No. 3 on the charts in both the US and the UK. The album is widely regarded as one of the most distinctive and influential works in Springsteen’s extensive discography. Interestingly, as recently as June, Springsteen himself was unsure about the existence of electric versions of the album. However, after investigating his archives, it was confirmed that an electric version of “Nebraska” did indeed exist, although it did not comprise the full album.

The long-awaited electric versions of the Nebraska tracks will be included in a five-disc expanded edition of the album, scheduled for release on October 17th in both CD and vinyl formats. The additional disc, titled “electric Nebraska,” features electrified versions of songs such as the title track, “Atlantic City,” “Mansion on the Hill,” “Johnny 99,” “Open All Night,” and “Reason to Believe.” Furthermore, this disc includes a fresh rendition of “Downbound Train” and “Born in the USA,” two songs that were ultimately included in Springsteen’s immensely successful album of the same name released in 1984.

The unveiling of the electric version of “Born in the USA” has already generated buzz among fans, as it offers a different and more emotionally charged take on the song compared to the widely-known version. In addition to these exciting elements, the expanded edition of “Nebraska” will also comprise a 2025 remaster of the original album, Nebraska outtakes featuring previously unreleased tracks like “Gun in Every Home,” “Child Bride,” and “On the Prowl,” as well as a disc and Blu-ray of a live concert from the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, New Jersey.

The release of the expanded album comes in tandem with the premiere of a biopic titled “Deliver Me from Nowhere.” The film delves into the period of Springsteen’s life surrounding the creation and release of “Nebraska,” with Jeremy Allen White portraying Springsteen, Jeremy Strong as manager Jon Landau, Odessa Young as Faye Romano, Stephen Graham as Springsteen’s father, and Paul Walter Hauser as Mike Batlan, who supervised the recording sessions for “Nebraska” at Springsteen’s residence.

This album release and accompanying biopic showcase a new facet of Bruce Springsteen and provide a deeper understanding of his creative process. Fans eagerly await the arrival of the expanded edition of “Nebraska,” immersing themselves in the unique and electrifying versions of the album’s classic tracks. As Springsteen continues to explore and release material from his extensive archives, he solidifies his reputation as a prolific and innovative artist.
