Between the Buried and Me, a progressive metal band, is gearing up to release their latest album, “The Blue Nowhere,” on September 12th. In a recent podcast, band members Tommy Rogers and Dan Briggs discussed the new album, their songwriting process, touring plans, and more.

The lead single, “Things We Tell Ourselves In The Dark,” set the stage for the album’s impending release, complete with a visually captivating music video featuring a 3D model of a mid-century modern hotel from the album’s artwork. Critics have hailed the band’s sound as “sunny jazz-funk” and praised their diverse musical range and refusal to conform to conventional norms. Another track, “Absent Thereafter,” drew comparisons to a blend of Van Halen and Huey Lewis, showcasing the band’s signature genre-blurring style.

One standout track from the album, “The Blue Nowhere,” took a different approach than the band’s usual complexity, focusing on simplicity and a basic chordal structure to create a specific atmosphere throughout the song. Guitarist Paul Waggoner expressed pride in the track’s creation and its seamless integration into the overall album narrative.

Produced by Jamie King, a long-time collaborator, “The Blue Nowhere” marks a new chapter for Between the Buried and Me, featuring a full string and horn section for the first time in the band’s history. Fans can look forward to various formats of the album, including a Special Edition CD, Gatefold 2LP, and digital versions. Additionally, a Deluxe Gatefold Special Colored 2LP + 2CD edition offers exclusive bonus content, such as an extra track, instrumentals, and alternate artwork.

The tracklist for “The Blue Nowhere” includes a range of titles, each contributing to the album’s overall theme and sound. Songs like “God Terror” and “Beautifully Human” promise to deliver the band’s trademark blend of progressive and metal elements, creating a cohesive listening experience from start to finish.

Between the Buried and Me will kick off their North American co-headlining tour with Hail The Sun on September 14th, featuring support from bands like Delta Sleep and The World Is a Beautiful Place & I am No Longer Afraid to Die on different legs of the tour.
