Exciting punk rock festival happening on Blackhorse Road this weekend
The highly anticipated punk rock festival, Decolonise Fest, is gearing up to take over Blackhorse Road at Signature Brew this weekend, promising an incredible lineup of talent. This festival has a rich history of showcasing the skills of people of color within the punk scene and will be hosting its biggest event yet on Saturday, 6th and Sunday, 7th September. The festival will feature performances by Ivor Novello Award-winning artist Master Peace, British-Asian sensation Hyphen, art punk collective The None, and Ipswich alt-rapper Native James. Attendees can look forward to a two-day extravaganza filled with music, workshops, and panels led by individuals of color from various sectors of the alternative arts community.
Decolonise Fest originated from a modest beginning at the South London punk venue DIY Space for London, and now in its seventh edition, the festival has expanded significantly, occupying the 300-capacity space at Signature Brew Blackhorse Road in Walthamstow. Alongside the headlining acts, the weekend will also feature performances by Ashaine White, The Genes, Steel, Dogviolet, Bona Rays, and Midwich Cuckoos. This festival boasts a reputation for nurturing talent within the alternative music landscape, with past editions featuring notable acts like Nova Twins, Bob Vylan, Big Joanie, Whitelands, and Grove.
Last year’s Decolonise Fest was held at Signature Brew Haggerston and featured headline performances by Spider, Currls, and Dead Air. The festival organizers have recently extended their reach beyond London, introducing the Decolonise Fest: On Tour series, which showcases local artists of color in cities such as Glasgow, Birmingham, and Leeds. This expansion highlights the festival’s commitment to providing a platform for diverse voices and talents within the alternative music scene.
The much-anticipated Decolonise Fest is a celebration of radical ideas and solidarity, offering a platform for artists and musicians from marginalized communities to showcase their work. With an impressive lineup of performers and a dedication to fostering talent, this festival is set to deliver an unforgettable experience for attendees.
