Large blues festival coming back to Mississauga in Ontario
Blues fans in Mississauga are in for a treat as one of Ontario’s largest blues festivals, the Southside Shuffle, returns this weekend. This annual tradition is a must-attend event for blues enthusiasts and promises to deliver an unforgettable musical experience.
Taking place from September 5th to the 7th, the Southside Shuffle will feature two prominent Canadian acts as the headliners. The festival will be centered around Port Credit Memorial Park, with activities spilling out onto Lakeshore Road and into various clubs located in the area.
On Friday night, the Sheepdogs will take the stage as the headline act, treating the audience to a late-night performance. Originally from Saskatchewan, the Sheepdogs have been making music since 2004, releasing three albums by 2010. Their big break came in 2011 when they appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine, catapulting them to mainstream success. Known for their straight-ahead rock and roll sound, the Sheepdogs are sure to get the crowd rocking with their soulful classics.
The following night, it will be Big Sugar’s turn to shine at Port Credit Memorial Park. With over 30 years of performing experience under their belts, Big Sugar is renowned for their energetic live shows that have earned them critical acclaim worldwide. The trio, consisting of Gordie Johnson, Anders Drerup, and Root Valach, has received multiple Juno Award nominations over the years, showcasing their talent and versatility as musicians.
“We’re very proud to present an all-Canadian lineup this year,” shares Artistic Director Chuck Jackson. “From well-known headliners to incredible young talent, there’s a wide range of musical influences that span the globe. It’s a great reflection of how blues and roots music continue to evolve in Canada, and we’re proud to shine a spotlight on the next generation.”
Throughout the festival, attendees can expect to enjoy performances from various artists on three different stages at the park, ensuring that the music keeps on flowing. In addition to the musical performances, there will be vendors selling music and food, with all the local restaurants in Port Credit open for business during the event.
Some of the performances are free, while others will require tickets for entry. A complete schedule of events and activities for the weekend can be found on the festival’s website at southsideshuffle.ca.
