event titled: A voice of one’s own. Additionally, the chamber music group Ensemble 360 will hold a special ‘storybook concert’ in November for local primary school children at St Columba church where they will learn songs inspired by the Giddy Goat book, accompanied by live music composed by Paul Rissmann. The evening will feature a performance of Mozart’s clarinet quintet by Pitchstone Music players and clarinetist Rob Plane.

All the concerts are free and are part of the efforts led by Pitchstone’s Rachel Roberts to bring world-class classical music to Leytonstone. Rachel, a professor of viola at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, believes that every person in the UK should have the chance to experience the transformative power of classical music. Drawing from her own experiences as a child growing up in Huddersfield, where free school meals and viola lessons paved the way for her musical career, Rachel is committed to providing opportunities for individuals to engage with music.

With a focus on music education, Pitchstone aims to address the dwindling opportunities for young people to create and enjoy music in schools. The organization received funding from Waltham Forest Council for its educational programs and hopes to obtain charitable status soon to further its mission of hosting family and evening events in the upcoming year. Recently, Rachel and her team held a successful family music show, where children were encouraged to interact with the music and even try their hand at conducting.
