Miles Kane releases soulful guitar-driven song “I Pray” in advance of upcoming album.
British artist Miles Kane has recently dropped his latest single, “I Pray,” a preview of his upcoming album Sunlight In The Shadows scheduled for release on October 17 through Easy Eye Sound. Produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys, the song combines Kane’s distinct psychedelic rock style with a reflective and uplifting vibe that signifies a new phase in his solo music career.
The track commences with an engaging guitar riff that transforms into an honest and candid anthem, blending personal introspection with a sense of grandeur. Kane, celebrated for his keen songwriting skills and tremolo guitar technique, contemplates personal evolution and self-discovery in the lyrics. “I had the riff for ‘I Pray’ prior to entering the studio with Dan, but it truly came alive during our collaboration,” Kane reveals. “As I’ve matured, I’ve developed a spiritual side and realized the importance of embracing it while staying authentic to myself, so this song delves into the journey of learning about oneself while staying grounded.”
The accompanying music video, directed by James Slater, opts for simplicity over extravagance, returning Kane to his hometown of Liverpool. He performs with his band in a stripped-down setup, allowing the essence of the song to shine. Kane explains, “I wanted something straightforward for this video, no frills. I returned to Liverpool to film it and simply wanted to perform with the band to let the music speak for itself.”
“I Pray” follows earlier releases from the album, such as the guitar-driven “Love Is Cruel” and the groove-infused “Electric Flower.” Critics from Clash, DIY, NME, and The Line of Best Fit praised “Love Is Cruel” for its catchy hooks and psychedelic influences, while FLOOD commended “Electric Flower” for its boogie-worthy tribute to T. Rex, heralding Auerbach’s soulful rock touches throughout the track.
Sunlight In The Shadows boasts 12 tracks of psyche-infused rock, seamlessly blending raw, dynamic riffs with mellow, melodic tunes. Kane has assembled a lineup of acclaimed musicians for the album, including Auerbach and Black Keys’ Patrick Carney on drums and additional instruments. Collaborators like Tom Bukovac, Nick Bockrath, and Barrie Cadogan contribute their prowess on guitar, rounding out the album’s sound.
Having achieved commercial success with five UK Top 20 solo albums and two UK #1 records as part of The Last Shadow Puppets, Kane continues to be a versatile and innovative figure in contemporary British rock. Sunlight In The Shadows serves as a tribute to classic rock roots while pushing the boundaries of personal and musical exploration. With its shimmering guitars, driving rhythms, and introspective lyrics, the album is a must-listen for fans of Kane’s work and guitar-centered psychedelic music.
Kane’s excitement about the record is palpable: “I aimed to create a record that is genuine and enjoyable, something that reflects my current self while also challenging me musically.” With the imminent release of “I Pray” and the full album, listeners can anticipate an electrifying and heartfelt addition to Kane’s discography on October 17.
